UB Investing $25M on Initiatives That Address 'Grand Challenges Facing Mankind'

The University at Buffalo is set to invest $25 million in four initiatives that address major societal issues, one of the significant programs to come out of the UB 2020 planning process.
One initiative, RENEW(Research and Education in eNergy, Environment and Water) has already been announced, while three “Communities of Excellence” were announced by the university Thursday. They were chosen from nearly 100 initial concept proposals submitted by faculty teams. The funding will be administered over five years.
