Good Thursday morning:
US deaths from COVID-19 have reached a stunning milestone. In less than four months, more than 100,000 Americans have succumbed to the disease. To give that number some context, it is larger than the entire population of Albany, New York. The United States has more coronavirus cases than any other country, and US deaths account for more than one third of fatalities worldwide. While New York’s bio/med industry is working furiously to combat the disease, it is important to pause today to reflect on the magnitude of its toll.
We hope you’ll join us this afternoon as we talk about the role of testing in understanding and responding to the coronavirus pandemic. We’re joined by Ortho Clinical Diagnostic’s Chief Innovation Officer, Palani Palaniappan, to discuss the development of a rapid antibody test that holds promise as a critical tool in our arsenal against the disease. This talk is part of our new series, Propelling New York Forward, conversations focused on the bio/med industry’s response to COVID-19 and how we begin to reopen our economy. We hope you’ll join us today at 2:00 pm and every Thursday thereafter. You may register for this free series at our website.
