At MedTech, we are humbled each day to work with the caregivers, researchers, and innovators who are on the front lines of disease treatment and cure.  Our members fight the good fight to end suffering and help the afflicted.  It is the most noble of endeavors.

In some ways, the COVID-19 global pandemic is just like the many other challenges tackled by our industry.  And yet, this disease – and its contagion -  imposes unique challenges to both frontline caregivers and the bio/med employees in our essential businesses.  Where do we draw the line between our duty to fight this disease and our personal responsibilities to ourselves, our loved ones and our community?

Cardiologist Sandeep Jauhar tackles this conundrum from a doctor’s perspective in an essay published this morning.  In it, he notes that “[s]ocial order relies on reciprocity.  Imposing outsize burdens on one group without sacrifice from others is unfair.  Doctors and nurses and other health care workers may be heroes in this pandemic, but we will not be martyrs.” The same can be said for those working in the bio/med industry.  While we will continue to increase manufacturing capacity and support policies and industry initiatives to ensure patients have access to critical medical technologies, we will also continue to support our employees and their families in staying healthy so they can continue to pursue their mission of serving patients and keeping the health care system strong.  These are not easy times, but the bio/med industry is up to the task.

MedTech exists to deliver value to the bio/med industry and serve those on the front lines of healthcare advances.  We rely on our members to make that possible.  Please take a moment to join or renew your membership today.  Renewing members can lock in last year’s rate through 2021.  New members who join today will receive 3 free months on their membership year.  Don’t wait.  We need your support to continue the work we do.

As always, don’t hesitate to contact us with your specific questions and concerns. Regular updates can be found at our website, which is refreshed daily.
