Good Tuesday morning:
In a first nod to reopening New York’s economy, Governor Cuomo said yesterday that the state is developing a plan that will allow some upstate hospitals to resume elective surgeries amid the coronavirus crisis. The plan, to be announced today, is in response to the financial burden assumed by hospitals that have suspended all but emergency surgeries. Last week, the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Anesthesiologists, Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses, and the American Hospital Association published a joint statement regarding the timing and preparedness for reopening elective surgeries, along with an accompany guidance document. We applaud the Governor for taking this important step.
