A bill supported by U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik would make it easier for Medicare recipients to acquire medical devices if they are self-paying for the equipment.
The Accelerating Innovation in Medicine Act sponsored by U.S. Erik Paulsen, a Minnesota Republican, would create a new category for medical devices approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. These devices would be made available to individuals with Medicare coverage who wish to self-pay.
Jessica Crawford, president of MedTech, said the measure will benefit medical device manufacturers and patients.
"This legislation will promote high quality job growth in the medical device sector and provide some regulatory clarity to medical device manufacturers which in turn drive continued investment in the medical device sector," Crawford said.
