MedTech Association, a membership-based trade association for the bioscience and medical technology (Bio/Med) industry in New York State, is holding its next MedTech Meet Up on Wednesday November 20. MedTech Meet Ups are held quarterly at a member location, and offer a great way for companies and individuals to interact with fellow members, and future-members alike, and learn about the latest industry trends.

The event, hosted by OneGroup, at its 25,000+ square foot, open concept work space in Syracuse, will be centered around researchers and innovators who are making advancements in care for the aging population.

Attendees will also get to hear about the Microsoft Smart Cities Technology Hub, an initiative to support the development of Syracuse’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Kicking off the event will be OneGroup CEO, Pierre Morrisseau, talking about Doing Well by Doing Good. Both Morrisseau and OneGroup are active supporters of innovation and business growth in this region, and he’ll talk about his commitment to Syracuse and fostering the technology sector.

Following Morrisseau’s welcoming remarks, the one-day, afternoon event will move to Jennifer Tifft, Deputy Commissioner for the City of Syracuse for an overview of Syracuse’s future plans to become a Microsoft Smart Cities Technology Hub – thus making it the third of its kind in the nation, and the first of its kind on the East Coast.

Attendees will also hear from Sharon Brangman, MD, a geriatrician and the Director of the Nappi Longevity Institute at Upstate Medical University.  Sharon is at the forefront of care innovations for the elderly and the Nappi Longevity Institute is a vehicle for the advancement of geriatric and age-related research.

In addition, the event will feature the following people:

Aaron Wolfe, the COO of Ichor Therapeutics and the Director of Grapeseed Bio, two entities located in Lafayette with a focus on longevity and age-related issues.

Lisa Sonneborn, the Director of Clarity Clinical Research, a Syracuse-based organization that connects patients and care givers to clinical trials in the age-related fields.

Winthrop (Win) Thurlow, Executive Director of the MedTech Association, says of the Meet Up, “We’re excited to bring New York’s bio/med ecosphere to Syracuse to focus on the unique resources this community provides and to learn about innovations in age-related healthcare. At MedTech, we deliver value by helping our members bring tomorrow’s medical solutions to the healthcare marketplace and this meet up will do just that.”
