Ortho Clinical Diagnostics Clinical Labs business is expanding its Software Engineering team in 2019.  We are hiring highly capable software engineers seeking full lifecycle development from customer requirements through delivery.   This is a hands-on position developing and testing software for the medical diagnostics industry.  We are looking for candidates who thrive when challenges arise and will perform work on complex electro-mechanical embedded systems using a scaled Agile environment in a regulated setting.  Technologies utilized consist of structured and object oriented programming, cybersecurity, network interoperability and data analytics.  Our clinical chemistry and immunodiagnostics platforms & systems seamlessly integrate into an automated clinical lab environment and provide better patient outcomes through diagnostics.  These high impact positions are based in the Company’s R&D headquarters in Rochester, NY. Position Summary:

This position is responsible for leading, implementing, verifying and validating software.  This includes, but is not limited to, software requirements analysis, high-level and detailed design, hazard analyses, implementation, testing strategy (automated or manual), verification and validation and ultimate delivery of software or a software sub-system


  • Performs development, unit testing and modification of product software
  • Develops automated test software and scripts
  • Develops software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users and UX team; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating defects; following the software development lifecycle
  • Determines operational feasibility by evaluating analyses, defining and solving problems, analyzing and capturing requirements, developing, proposing, implementing and testing solutions.
  • Documents and demonstrates solutions by delivering documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clearly written code
  • Analyzes system specifications and industry standards and implements solutions in a medical regulated industry.
  • Generates automated test scripts to perform unit testing and verification of software
  • Improves organizational capabilities by conducting analyses and recommending changes in policies and procedures and by applying industry best practices
  • Updates job knowledge by maintaining state-of-the-art skills in development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participates in educational opportunities; reads professional publications; may participate in professional organizations
  • Improves reliability, quality and user experience by analyzing, and summarizing  service issues yielding system and software improvements
  • Achieves timely related results in alignment with annual goals.
  • Supports and develops the software team by providing advice, coaching and training
  • Consistently demonstrations the mission, values and operating principles of Ortho Clinical Diagnostics
  • Must be capable of reliable and predictable attendance
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS Computer Engineering, BS Computer Science, BS Software Engineering. Typically requires 5 – 7 years of experience with BS or equivalent, 3 - 5 years with MS or Ph.D. with 0 – 2 years of experience”
  • C/C++ Programming experience                                                                  
  • Embedded real-time experience
  • Must have exceptional skills in the following areas:  analyzing information, software design, software documentation, software testing, programming skills, software development fundamentals, software development process, software requirements, software architecture
  • No regular travel required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS Computer Engineering, MS Computer Science, MS Software Engineering
  • Experience in a regulated environment such as medical
  • Formal Analysis and design experience such as Object-Oriented
  • Experience with Design Patterns
