Master Production Scheduler

The Opportunity:

As Ortho continues to grow we are seeking a Master Production Scheduler to work in our fluids manufacturing facility. The Master Production Scheduler for Fluids will manage the Fluids planning team and processes to develop production supply plans in response to global demand.  This position will assess and approve the proposed supply plans to ensure they meet customer demand while balancing capacity, and ensures plans are in place to achieve internal and external customer service targets. Primary day shift; may have to work off-shift or weekends to meet production demands.

This position is in Rochester, NY.


The Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Fluids planning/buying team through establishing and tracking status against goals/objectives and adjusting as business changes require.

  • Translate business initiatives into action plans. 

  • Actively manage development, performance assessments and succession plan for the planning professionals.

  • Develop strategies for the enabling supply plans (MPS) that align to manufacturing capacity with demand, while optimizing inventory levels. 

  • Manage and approve production schedules to support external demand and operational requirements (scheduling constraints, internal/engineering demands, quality, etc.).

  • Manage the Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning Supply Reviews for Fluids manufacturing lines through approval of the files and facilitating the meetings.

  • Budget accountability for raw material inventory, work in progress (WIP) inventory and absorption reporting.

  • Purchasing responsibility for a subset of materials/suppliers.


  • Conduct internal meetings to address activities, issues, and opportunities as it relates to production plans.

  • Advances the use of the SAP system by the planning team to enable efficient production planning and development of material plans that enable inventory optimization.

  • Cross-functionally set strategy to implement lean practices within the organization to optimize material flow. 

  • Challenge current processes and lead change to reduce costs and/or risks.

  • Monitors and adjusts daily work tasks to ensure schedules are met.


The Individual:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline required or equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.  Advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 6-8 years in relevant experience in supply chain, planning,  manufacturing, or inventory management required.

  • Proven ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks successfully.

  • Previous experience managing people is highly preferred.

  • Experience working with an inventory system (i.e. SAP, JDE, other) is required.

  • Advanced Excel skills preferred.

  • Knowledge of current and applicable GMP and FDA regulations is highly preferred.

  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment is highly preferred, (diagnostics, medical device, pharmaceutical).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills required.

  • 10% domestic travel.
