Congress should raise discretionary spending caps and allocate more funds to the NIH, according to a report from United for Medical Research and the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation. NIH budget constraints have significantly reduced the agency's purchasing power, leading to fewer and smaller research grants. "There is a secret sauce in terms of entrepreneurship that comes out of the U.S. life sciences industry. The advances that we have are because of this whole ecosystem being able to work together. But really the fuel for the engine is the budget," said FasterCures Executive Director Margaret Anderson. "You cannot run a business where you do not know from year to year how much money you will have to fund it."
