Torrey Cope of Sidley Austin Addressed MedTech Community at 2013 Annual Members Dinner

Verona, NY- MedTech welcomed Torrey Cope of Sidley Austin, LLP to its 2013 Annual Members Dinner in June at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, NY where various leaders from New York State’s bioscience and medical Technology industry gathered to celebrate their collective achievements.

“The way FDA handles enforcement is fundamentally impacting the way Bio/Med companies do business today,” Cope stated, referring to key enforcement trends at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Cope, a senior associate at Sidley Austin’s Food, Drug and Medical Device Regulatory Practice, helps clients in a variety of regulatory and enforcement matters involving FDA issues. He pointed out one area in particular, where FDA faces first amendment challenges when it comes to enforcement in the area of promotional claims.

The dinner concluded with MedTech’s president, Jessica Crawford, recognizing and awarding MedTech member organizations for their outstanding work. The awards included:

Additionally, long-standing board member and active volunteer, Amy Ryan, was recognized as MedTech’s Member of the Year. Ryan is currently the general manager of Varian Medical Systems in Liverpool, NY.

“MedTech is only as strong as the member organizations it represents, and it is clear that both are thriving,” Crawford said. “The past year has had its share of challenges in the midst of the rebounding economy, however our members have confronted the odds, making strategic decisions to remain competitive and on the cutting edge of innovation.”
