Two students can solve a Rubik's Cube in less than 20 seconds. One student climbed Mount Everest at the age of 12. And 99 students ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in their high school graduating class.
That's just a snapshot of the more than 1,700 freshmen who will arrive in Troy, New York this week to prepare for their fall semester at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. It is the largest freshman class in the history of the 192-year-old private engineering and research school. The freshman class will be at least 23 percent larger than last year's incoming class when 1,379 students enrolled.
