Saturday, September 14, 2013

MedTech announces the MEDTECH 2013 annual conference will be held on October 7th and 8th at the Hyatt Regency in Rochester, NY. MEDTECH 2013 is the premier leadership conference and technology showcase of New York State’s bioscience and medical (Bio/Med) technology industry.  MEDTECH 2013’s theme is mapping the road to profitable growth for the Bio/Med technology industry that is at a crossroadsFaced with regulatory hurdles and ongoing challenges of the current economic climate, companies are seeking creative alternatives for driving profitable growth. MEDTECH 2013 will help companies navigate obstacles, protect their existing business, and develop innovative products to drive expansion.

MedTech's new President, Jessica Crawford, and a team of industry experts have developed a conference that zeroes in on the needs of MedTech members and will be a guide to profitable growth for Bio/Med businesses and professionals.  Crawford wants to ensure that Bio/Med companies are on the growth track in New York, stating "MedTech's purpose is to bolster the energy and innovation that New York's biotech firms bring to the world every single day. It is our job to help those firms evolve and mature so their breakthroughs can continue improving the health of all." Crawford also notes that MEDTECH 2013 will help fuel an industry that is essential to New York’s economy.  New York’s Bio/Med industry directly employs 73,300 people with salaries well above the state and national averages and indirectly employs 175,000 people.  Upstate New York’s Bio/Med industry consists of more than 200 companies, 70% of which are headquartered in the region.

MEDTECH 2013 features training programs focused on operating efficiently, crisis communications, and sales negotiation training for conference attendees. Session tracks include Operations and Technology, Business Growth, Regulation, and Industry Collaboration. The Industry Collaboration track features a unique "reverse pitch" session where larger companies, such as Welch Allyn, Corning, Boston Scientific and General Electric, provide guidance on what they look for in new partners and technologies. Forging a successful strategic alliance with a large company can boost a small business.  After the reverse pitch, companies can sign up for one-on-one networking meetings to jump-start discussions that could lead to future collaborations.

MEDTECH 2013 will also hold a Tech Showcase that explores new products and prototypes and highlights leading research. The showcase provides an opportunity to share emerging technologies, products, and research programs with conference attendees from the Bio/Med technology community.  The Tech Showcase will feature the Applied Sciences Group, ATW Companies, ConMed, Lymtech, Polymer Conversions, RTEmd, SUNY Oswego, Thermo Fisher, Volpi, The RIT Center for Quality & Applied Statistics, Welch Allyn, Novatech, and University of Buffalo's NYS Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences.

The MEDTECH 2013 conference will be open for registration through October 4th, 2013.  Those interested in attending may register online at www.medtech.org/medtech2013 or contact Nichole Wenderlich Owens, MedTech's Manager of Marketing & Events, at (315) 423-7200 or nowens@medtech.org
