KeyBank is boosting its business banking team with the promotion of an executive based in Albany, New York.
Oliver Kardos has been promoted to northeast regional sales manager for KeyBank’s business banking division. KeyBank created the position after the bank acquired First Niagara in August.
In his new role, Kardos is responsible for business banking sales across Key’s nine markets in New York, Pennsylvania and New England.
He began his career in banking in 1990 as a part-time teller at Citizens Bank, where he eventually lead Citizens' New York business banking group. Kardos has been with Key for six years, as the business banking team leader for Key’s Albany and Syracuse markets.
Kardos' promotion comes during a time of disruption in the area's banking industry.
Last year, KeyCorp (NYSE: KEY), the largest bank in the Albany area, acquired First Niagara Financial Group, the second-largest bank in the area.
The new KeyBank has almost 40 percent of the region's market share and about $12.7 billion in deposits.
The disruption is giving many competitor banks reason to vie for some of KeyBank's market share, customers or top employees.
Kardos has bachelor's degrees in economics and French from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
He serves as a member of the New York Business Development Corporation 504 loan board and as chair for New York Small Business Development Center.
Kardos lives in Guilderland with his wife and two sons.
