Monroe Community Hospital is the first long-term healthcare facility in the nation to obtain state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment. The new technology was unveiled on Thursday. This equipment, designed and manufactured by the local company, Gorbel, gives patients the opportunity to re-learn how to walk. Connected to a ceiling mounted track, SafeGait attaches to a body harness and gives patients the ability to move 360 degrees as therapists adjust the level of support.
"Monroe County is the first of many to welcome this cutting-edge rehabilitation technology," said Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks. "Thanks to our strong public-private partnerships with the Monroe Community Hospital Foundation and Gorbel Medical, this new equipment will help improve patient outcomes and the quality of life for all residents at Monroe Community Hospital."
Monroe Community Hospital is a fully certified residential health care facility, providing long-term care for individuals with complex health conditions requiring higher levels of medical and nursing care. SafeGait will be located in the Physical Therapy Department on the 5th floor of the hospital.
