East Greenbush approves Regeneron warehouse plan

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals' warehouse development plan on a 98-acre site in Mill Creek Commerce Park has the town's go-ahead.
The 165,000- to 190,000-square foot warehouse is expected to create 100 new jobs over two years with an estimated payroll of $5 million, according to the environmental impact statement filed with the board, which was approved unanimously Monday night.
The development at the Tempel Lane site approved by the Town Board in its 5-0 vote will expand Regeneron's presence in the town. This project is smaller than the one first submitted by the pharmaceutical company.
"The project was originally proposed to include a manufacturing facility with associated office, laboratory and warehouse space with a total building area of 485,400 square feet," according to the statement filed with the resolution.
The scaled-back project includes the warehouse and parking for 275 vehicles.
The 119-acre Tempel Lane location includes the 98-acre parcel for the warehouse and a 21-acre parcel for future development.
"It's a matter of great pride that East Greenbush is one of the homes of Regeneron," Supervisor Jack Conway said.
The addition of the warehouse jobs will bring Regeneron's local workforce to about 2,000. The company's manufacturing plant is adjacent to the state University at Albany's Health Sciences Campus off Columbia Turnpike. The site was formerly known as the university's East Campus.
Regeneron last year purchased the Pitney Bowes/MapInfo building at Rensselaer Technology Park in North Greenbush, paying $17.75 million.
"Regeneron is a great company to have in East Greenbush," Councilwoman Deberah DiMartino said.
Regeneron representatives declined to comment on the Town Board's action as they left the meeting.
