A Cornell University startup will find out in a few weeks if it’s a finalist for a $1 million award that would allow it to grow in a literal way.
The startup, Uma Bioseed, has already received cash prizes for an idea that could improve the yields for commercial farms that grow tomatoes, melons and cabbages. The startup is testing a seed coating that makes seeds resistant to disease, bacteria and fungus while they are germinating, and then continues to help plants as they grow.
