Union workers at BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York overwhelmingly approved a contract extension during voting Monday night.
The collective bargaining agreement with Office and Professional Employees International Union Local 153 covers 440 employees, including office and clerical staff who work at the health plan’s Buffalo headquarters.
The agreement, which includes annual wage increases and maintains current benefits, extends the existing contract through April 25, 2019. It was initially due to expire in April 2017.
CEO David Anderson said in a prepared statement it was the first time in the company’s recent history that a long-term extension was executed prior to the expiration of the current agreement, and is reflective of a strong internal culture.
