Biotech Start-ups NovaSterilis and Rheonix Hosted Congressman Richard Hanna for Site Tours

LANSING, N.Y.—KensaGroup companies and MedTech members NovaSterilis, Inc. and Rheonix, Inc. hosted Congressman Richard Hanna (NY-24) late last month at their facilities in Lansing and Ithaca for a tour and open dialogue about biotech business growth and innovation.
Among the topics discussed was licensing university technologies to form new businesses and fuel regional economic development—the mission of KensaGroup and the catalyst for technology start-ups like NovaSterilis and Rheonix.
"Having a local Congressperson who is business minded and aware of what high-tech companies need to be successful is extremely important to our business community,” said Thomas Steffie, vice president of business development for NovaSterilis. “A representative like Richard Hanna can be a vital resource and voice for businesses in his state, especially for biotech companies that face difficult regulatory environments and complicated policy issues," Steffie said.
During the congressman’s visit, company representatives addressed a number of issues, some specific to the bioscience and medical technology industry. Steffie, Eric Eisenhut, KensaGroup’s managing director, David Burns, CEO of NovaSterilis, Tony Eisenhut, president of Rheonix, and Heather Erickson, president of MedTech—the hub of Upstate New York’s Bio/Med industry—participated.
“It is important for legislators to understand the implications of policies that affect businesses in the bioscience and medical technology space,” said Erickson. “Most Bio/Med companies are small businesses that were built around an innovative health technology, and they face distinct challenges from other tech businesses.”
“I am fully committed to seeing this industry flourish here,” said Hanna. “NovaSterilis and Rheonix are leading the way for innovation in the region and I’m pleased to see biotech business growth in Upstate New York.”
MedTech helps provide opportunities for the leaders of New York to understand the scale and potential of the bioscience and medical technology industry for job creation and economic growth, engages their support and participation, and provides them with exposure to a group of their constituents.
