Friday, March 20, 2015
A bill was introduced by Reps. Steve Stivers, R-Ohio, and Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, to accelerate the FDA's review and approval of drugs that have been approved by the European Union. The Speeding Access to Already Approved Pharmaceuticals Act was proposed to address drug lag and delays in the availability of lifesaving and life-changing treatments in the U.S. The bill would require the FDA to review treatments that have been approved by European authorities within 90 days. The agency's current shortest assessment time is six months.
