The Director of Marketing, Communications & Events is responsible for the Office of Economic Development’s marketing strategies, marketing communications, and public relations activities – both external and internal – as well as all events, sponsorships and market research/business intelligence. The position reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Economic Development and will work directly with CBLS, CMI and BIG directors on initiatives specific to their entities and programs. This individual leads the marketing team.

 Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

The Director manages a team responsible for the development and implementation of communications, events management, public relations and market research/business intelligence for the OED and its affiliated technology-based economic development entities and programs.  He or she will coordinate with internal UB entities (e.g., The Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE), the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership CEL, the Institute for Healthcare Informatics (IHI)), as well as University communications and Government Affairs as appropriate with a focus on showcasing UB’s critical role in spurring innovation, economic impact and workforce development.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate possesses the below characteristics: 

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years’ experience implementing and working in marketing/communications
  • Experience working with and presenting to executive leaders
  • Superior time management skills
  • Proven ability to mentor and grow staff
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills; ability to sort through diverse issues, set appropriate direction, and initiate implementation plans that deliver the intended results. 
  • The successful individual is capable of establishing strategy and making independent decisions across multiple assignments with minimal supervision. Because of the diversity of responsibilities and the broad range of duties, it is essential that the person have the capability of taking independent action; takes ownership and responsibility and has the ability to bring vision to reality through collaborations with a broad range of individuals, groups, and organizations.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Marketing, Communications or related field
  • 8+ years’ experience implementing and working in marketing/communications
