Board of Directors Charter
As a corporately driven organization, the MedTech Board of Directors is comprised of senior officers of the manufacturing companies:

Daniel Jonas
Chairman, Board of Directors
Jonas, a founding member of MedTech and Board member since 2004, joined ConMed Corporation as General Counsel in August 1998 and became the Vice President-Legal Affairs in March 1999. In September 1999 through July 2005, Jonas assumed responsibility for some of ConMed’s Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance departments. In March 2003, he also became responsible for the administration of ConMed’s ethics policy. In addition to his duty as secretary of the MedTech Board of Directors, Jonas also serves as co-chair of the Issues, Events & Services committee.

 


Mauricio Arellano
Co Vice-Chair, Director, Board of Directors
Mauricio Arellano serves on Greatbatch’s Executive Team as the Senior Vice President of Cardiac and Neurology for Greatbatch Medical. As Senior Vice President, Mr. Arellano oversees the design, development and commercialization of technology and products that enable a wide range of therapies and procedures. He has held various positions since joining Greatbatch in 2003 including Senior Vice President for CRM and Neuromodulation, Senior Vice President of Medical Solutions, Vice President of Greatbatch Mexico, and Plant Manager for Greatbatch Mexico and Carson City, Nevada facilities. Prior to joining Greatbatch, Mr. Arellano served in a variety of human resources and operational roles with Tyco Healthcare (now Covidien) and Sony.
 


Martin Brusdeilins
Co-Vice-Chair, Board of Directors
As Vice President, Research & Development Worldwide, Brusdeilins oversees new product development, research, and product support in Rochester, NY. His work encompasses the fields of clinical diagnostics, immunodiagnostics, immunohematology and blood screening equipment. Brusdeilins serves as a member on the Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics Global Management Board. He joined OCD in March 2003. Prior to joining OCD, Brusdeilins spent 17 years at Roche Diagnostics. Most recently he was Roche's Senior Vice President and Head of Research & Development at Roche Near Patient Testing in Graz, Austria. Brusdeilins was appointed as a director to the MedTech board at MEDTECH 07, a Medical Device and Diagnostics Leadership Summit held in September.


Mitch Katz
Secretary, Board of Directors
Mr. Katz, Menter, an attorney at Rudin & Trivelpiece, P.C. handles commercial litigation in state and federal courts in cases involving creditors' rights, lender liability defense, limited liability companies and partnerships, shareholder disputes in closely held corporations, contract disputes, trade secrets and technology licensing matters, employers' rights under non-competition and confidentiality agreements, and contested commercial foreclosure actions. Mr. Katz also provides litigation support to the firm’s Business Restructuring and Bankruptcy practice group in complex matters arising under and in connection with cases filed under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code.


Amy Ryan
Treasurer, Board of Directors
After her 16-year tenure with InfiMed Inc., Ryan was appointed as President in October 2007. Prior to her appointment, Ryan honed leadership experience as Executive Vice President of the company. With expertise in operations development, engineering, marketing and P&L management, Ryan looks to strengthen InfiMed’s trusted commitment to high quality products, global service, and innovative solutions to challenges. As a director, Ryan’s mission is to continue to enhance MedTech’s support for local companies who are bringing innovation to a globalizing medical technologies field. 
 


Don Boyd
Director, Board of Directors
As Vice President for Research at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Donald Boyd and his team work with the entire RIT faculty, staff and students to identify research programs, funding sources through government, state and corporate collaborations, and technology transfer opportunities through intellectual property management, new company start-ups and outreach programs. Boyd received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Iowa in 1971. He now has nearly forty years of experience of research and education activities with both the academic and industrial communities beginning with the University of Minnesota, Honeywell Corporation, Eastman Kodak Company and for the past twelve years with RIT. He is currently the Executive Director of the New York Strategically Targeted Academic Research Center called the IT Collaboratory. He is also President and Board Chairman of Venture Creations Incubator, a subsidiary of RIT focused on entrepreneurial business development. He serves on the Board of the Infotonics Technology Center. In 2009 Boyd became Co-Chair of the RGHS / RIT Research & Education Alliance working in collaboration with Rochester General Hospital System to promote joint research opportunities. For the past year, Boyd has supported MedTech’s efforts to exchange technology and to identify R&D opportunities among the MedTech biosciences community.



Dave Eilers

Director, Board of Directors Throughout his twenty-five year career, Dave Eilers has been a goal-oriented enterprise leader who enjoys pioneering new products as well as opening new markets worldwide. Mr. Eilers has experience with Consumer Goods such as leading the introduction and roll-out of Personal Pan Pizza for Pizza Hut and opening new markets for Hathaway Division of Warnaco. His experience in Durable Goods is as diverse as —home satellite dishes and commercial chinaware for Syracuse China/ Libbey Foodservice. For the last decade, Dave has been employed in the Healthcare Industry working both as a consultant and in management for two private-equity investors before the ten-company group was acquired in March of 2006. Mr. Eilers’ current interest is applying an Open Innovation business model to Diagnostic Healthcare-- bridging the gap between invention and market introduction. Dave was one of three founders of Blue Highway LLC, an advanced R&D subsidiary of Welch Allyn. Blue Highway is dedicated to creating innovative, intellectual capital through early detection and diagnosis of adverse health conditions, aggregation of data to enhance clinical outcomes, and comprehensive, clinical decision support. In the course of his business development activities, Mr. Eilers has observed a variety of clinical procedures at many prestigious teaching institutions such as Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Harvard Medical School and Cleveland Clinic.
 

 
Lorraine Ellis
Director, Board of Directors
Lorraine D. Ellis has over 30 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry. She has worked at several pharmaceutical companies in positions ranging from Associate Pharmacologist to Director, Medical Project Planning and Development. She has worked in various parts of the development process from pre-clinical labs clinical studies and FDA submissions. Lorraine has developed and taught clinical research training programs to for over 20 years. Realizing the impact technology can have on clinical trial methods, she designed and implemented one of the first CTMS systems, IMPACT, over 15 years ago. Lorraine has a BA (Biology) Hofstra University, MS (Biology) Adelphi University, and MBA Rochester Institute of Technology. Continuing her work in education she is an Adjunct Professor at RIT and on the RIT Clinical Advisory Board to develop a new Masters Degree in Clinical Research Management and an Adjunct Assistant Professor for MGH IHP Graduate Program in Clinical Investigation. She is active in professional organizations: DIA, ACRP, and Women President Organization (WPO). Her organizational volunteer work includes serving on several committees and advisory boards. She was a member of the ACRP board of directors for 5 years. She is founder and President/CEO of Research Dynamics Consulting Group, Ltd. since 1993. The company is a privately held CRO conducting Phase I-IV clinical trials for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries using state-of-the-art technology. As one of the top training companies in the industry, the company conducts training courses throughout the country for clinical research professionals.


Ben Harp
Director, Board of Directors
Harp joined Polymer Conversions Inc. in December 2003 as the Director of Business Development. In June 2004 he became the Chief Operating Officer. He holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics from Canisius College. He currently is the Vice Chair of the Life Science Council of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership and is on the board of directors for Manufacturers Association of Plastics Processors. Harp previously served on the board of directors for the Society of Plastics Industry from 2004 to 2007.
 


Holly Hillberg
Director, Board of Directors
As Chief Technology Officer and Vice-President, Carestream Health, Inc., Holly leads a global team of research and development professionals in the creation and commercialization of digital solutions for healthcare institutions worldwide. Ms. Hillberg is responsible for leading technology and intellectual property strategy, setting direction for advanced research and innovation, and driving key commercialization efforts. Her other responsibilities range from regulatory affairs, health, safety and environment, and product design and usability for Carestream Health, Inc. Holly earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology. She completed the Executive Development Program from Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and the Manufacturing Executive Program at the University of Michigan.
 


 Bruce Kirk
Director, Board of Directors
Bruce D. Kirk is responsible for the advancement of Innovation Effectiveness throughout the corporation. His responsibilities include innovation process development and deployment, employee education and training, global
benchmarking, next generation process development and the implementation of the Innovation Black Belt role across Corning. He is the corporate process owner of Corning’s Five Stage Innovation Process and the Roadmapping
process. Bruce led the Revitalize Innovation Globally (RIG) initiative for the Corporation since 2005. Previously, he
led the innovation process portion of Corning Competes re-engineering from 1995 to 1997. His focus was on Innovation Project Management and its deployment in Corning’s faster new product and process R&D environment during the telecom growth period. Bruce has extensive experience teaching the principles and practice of the innovation process to teams in Corning’s worldwide network. He is also skilled in facilitating the development of roadmaps and business technology strategies with the business units. Bruce joined Corning in 1976 and has held
various leadership positions in sales, sales management, marketing management and business management. His career experience has spanned several Corning divisions including Medical Products, Science Products, Human Resources, Photonic Technologies, and Science and Technology. Bruce holds a bachelor’s degree in business finance from Susquehanna University.
 


Harold Meckler
Director, Board of Directors
Since 2000, Dr. Meckler has led AMRI's Science & Technology department. This group helps to manage the AMRI IP portfolio, internal research projects, Scientific Information systems and the AMRI sample collection. Dr. Meckler joined AMRI in 1995 to head up the Chemical Development and cGMP Production Groups. Prior to that he worked at Telor Ophthalmic Pharmaceuticals (Wilmington, Massachusetts) and built their Organic Chemistry Department. In 1984, Dr. Meckler joined the Chemical Development Group of the CIBA Pharmaceuticals Division (Summit, New Jersey) where he focused on the process development, pilot plant scale up and cGMP production of a wide variety of compounds. Prior to that, Dr. Meckler worked in the Chemical Development Group of Sterling Winthrop (Rensselaer, New York). Dr. Meckler earned his Ph.D. in 1983 from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Organic Process Research and Development.
 


 
Stephen F. Meyer
Director, Board of Directors
Meyer has been executive vice president at Welch Allyn, Inc. since 2006. He is executive manager of the core physical exam and blood pressure businesses, corporate communications, brand development and business intelligence, and corporate research and engineering. He chairs the Welch Allyn Executive Committee and is a co-chair of the Welch Allyn Product Strategies Board. Meyer has been a loyal Welch Allyn employee since 1981. He became a MedTech board member in 2006. His objective as chair of the board is to help MedTech fully realize its goal to accelerate growth of its member companies while collaboratively expanding skills and employment in the region.
 


Bela Musits
Director, Board of Directors
Bela L. Musits is a Founding Managing Director of High Peaks Venture Partners, L.P. High Peaks is an early-stage technology venture fund that focuses on making investments across New York State. Prior to High Peaks, Bela was the Director of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Incubator Program. He is the founder of two venture-backed companies and has held senior management and technical positions at the corporate research labs of IBM and GE. Bela also managed the successful spin-off of technology from IBM Research, serving as co-founder and president of a computer-guided robotic surgery company. He raised over $17 million in capital and positioned the company for a successful IPO in 1997.


Dave Nocilly
Director, Board of Directors
David L. Nocilly is a registered patent attorney who has prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications for electromechanical, biomedical, and mechanical inventions. He frequently counsels inventors on patent matters and assists companies with implementing value driven intellectual property strategies. In addition to the preparation and prosecution of patent, trademark, and copyright applications in the U.S. and overseas, Mr. Nocilly handles the enforcement of the full range of intellectual property rights, including the litigation of patent, trademark, and copyright matters. Mr. Nocilly is also an adjunct professor at Syracuse University College of Law, where he regularly teaches a course on patent prosecution and strategy. He also frequently lectures on intellectual property protection and management for undergraduate and graduate business students, and provides continuing legal education classes on intellectual property topics for colleagues. Mr. Nocilly is a member of the Onondaga County and New York State Bar Associations. He is admitted to practice in New York and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Western Districts of New York. Mr. Nocilly is a graduate of Cornell University and received his J.D. summa cum laude from Syracuse University College of Law.
